Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas- Book Talk/Review

Hello everyone, slightly late, but here is my Queen of Shadows book review!

SDC12801

I’ve been waiting for this book since i read Heir of Fire when it came out a year ago, so you can say that i was pretty anxious to get my hands on this baby.

Summary:

Um, hello, it’s the fourth book, you shouldn’t need a summary, if you came here because you wanted to get into Throne of Glass, then i would suggest reading a Throne of Glass review first. BUT, this is where Aelin comes back from Wendlyn ready to fight for her kingdom, and embrace her identity as Aelin, shedding Celaena behind her. Things happen, go read the book if you haven’t.

My Thoughts:

The cover is GORGEOUS! I think though that Heir of Fire is prettier…? Hmm, maybe. I loved this book a lot, everything happened that should have happened, with the exception of a few things.

Spoilers: (Random and out of order)

Chaol seemed like a real dick in this book, and i feel like the character Nesryn was only created to be his ‘match’.

The Manon/Dorian thing sounds weird and interesting, but i feel like many people are like NO because they’re still holding out hope for Dorian/Aelin in the next two books.

YES! When Rowan showed up, i almost cried the way Aelin flung herself at him. Literally throughout the whole book is Rowan and Aelin saying sexual things to each other. And yes for Lysandra killing Arobynn.

Oh, poor Aedion. He was going to do the whole Blood Oath thing, but Rowan already did that.

Kaltain got her revenge! Ha ha, and Elide is going to find Celaena, but she’s going to get Aelin instead, that’s going to be funny. Ok, Lorcan is a brat, and Gavriel is Aedion’s father! Woah!

Why are people hating on this book?

I’ve shipped Rowan and Aelin since meeting Rowan in Heir of Fire. I never felt anything with Dorian and Aelin, and well, she made her feelings clear for Chaol. So many people simply disliked this book because their ship didn’t come true or whatever.

GUYS! Are you kidding me?

First of all, there are two more books, and anything can happen then. Second of all, trust Sarah J. Maas, and third of all, if Aelin is happy, then so should the readers! And even if Rowan and Aelin didn’t end up together, i would still be happy with Chaol or Dorian, because i just love Aelin and trust her choices.

Verdict:

Amazing book, what’s going to happen in the next two though? I think though, that despite loving this book so much, it’s my least favorite, with Heir of Fire being my favorite, then Throne of Glass, then Crown of Midnight.

I feel like Aelin pretty much falls in love with a lot of people in this series. Dorian, Chaol, Rowan. I mean, it’s not bad completely, but many readers do not support Rowan, and i think it’s because each book Aelin has a different love interest. It’s also confusing with the whole, now she’s Aelin thing.

I’ve typed Celaena instead of Aelin waaaay too many times in this review. It’s slightly confusing on who she is; and when she ‘turns’ into Celaena. Like really? Were the first two book a lie then? Beautiful cover, amazing writing, i loved it. 5 out of 5 stars. I can’t wait till the 5th book, and i can’t wait to see what happens next!

That’s it for my review! Share you comments and thoughts below! Do you agree with me? Disagree?

Thanks for reading lovelies!

  1. Yeah it makes me sad that so many people are hating on this book because of their ship. I will be the first to say that I LOVE Dorian and hope they are endgame because there is just so much linking them together. BUT! QoS is still my favorite book and I did end up shipping Rowaelin too. I admit I was shocked by their romance because in HoF there was nothing but a platonic relationship between them and I loved their friendship better but still love their romance (: if that makes sense. But everything else I agree with you! Nesryn is cool but she does seem added to just be an interest for Chaol. And I don’t like the Dorian/Manon thing because it seems a little weird to me. She’s immortal, he is not…ya know?

    • Yeah, i think i liked their friendship better, but throughout HoF, i wanted romance for them. And yeah, Nesyrn IS cool, just you know, added for Chaol. I’m really interested to see how the Dorian/Manon thing plays out in the next book, it’s going to be…interesting. 😉

  2. I agree with so many of the things you said! Nesryn really felt like she was just made for Chaol as a ‘match’. I also keep getting confused with what to call Celaena/Aelin now (and she keeps changing it herself – it’s confusing!). I also ship Rowan and Aelin (kind of in HoF but definitely in QoS) but I am annoyed that the Chaolaena ship was so suddenly thrown aside. Chaol’s character was the one thing I really couldn’t deal with in this book – he was so unlike himself (if that makes sense).

  3. Yes! Another Rowan and Aelin shipper… I think that they bonded so quickly because of the blood bond…I mean they are a part of each other now, they communicate by just looking at each other! Rowan is end game in my book. I don’t think that Dorian could keep up with Aelin…they are better off friends.

    • Yay! Yeah, i don’t think Dorian is endgame, just because Aelin doesn’t really think about him like that anymore, but then again, she kept calling Rowan just a friend too…But still, i love Rowan, and i guess we shall see what happens in the next book. 🙂

  4. Lol okay if I’m being honest, I loved Rowan and Aelin’s friendship better and the whole them being in love thing came as a shock and I mean they were cute but I preferred their relationship in Heir of Fire. Dorian is still definitely end game lol. I really liked Nesryn’s character because it added another badass female into the mix and that was great. Manon and Dorian are heading down an interesting road, but we shall see. This one was actually my favorite, with Crown of Midnight or Throne of Glass in last place lol but they were all amazing

    • I feel like when Rowan and Aelin were just friends, i wanted more for them, and now that they’re sort of a thing, i kind of liked their relationship better in Heir of Fire, (that’s why it’s my favorite) I do love Nesyrn’s character, i just feel like she was just added for Chaol. And you know, there’s two books left, and a lot can happen then, so maybe Dorian is endgame, lol. And Manon and Dorian are interesting, agreed. And also, yeah, they’re all just amazing. Thanks for commenting! 😉
