Summer Shenanigans!

Summer Shenanigans.png

So summer is drawing to a close and school is starting up again in two or so weeks. I’m going to be a senior in high school and it will be my last first day of school!

My summer was pretty boring to be honest, I didn’t go anywhere or do anything exciting but I did some small things. I thought I’d make a post in the form of a list, enjoy!

(Also shenanigans means mischief technically and I didn’t really get into any of that so irony right?)

1. I went to adventureland with my brothers and mom and to NYC for the day with my family. I also went to BookCon but that was in June before school let out, so it doesn’t really count.

2. I pretty much worked all summer. I’m a lifeguard at a pool and I got so many hours this summer, much more than last summer when I worked at a different pool. (Am I throwing shade, low key yes). I ogled over cute boys at work obviously also. There’s this one coworker who I am majorly crushing on but he’s like 20 going on 21 and I am 16 going on 17 so like there’s no way that’s happening.

3. I watched some movies and tv shows! Finally I watched Wonder Woman and Beauty and the Beast! I also have Doctor Strange and Deadpool that I’m going to watch soon! I watched some tv shows also like Shadowhunters, the Bold Type, and I finished Season 3 of Greys Anatomy but I won’t be continuing. I also had a free Netflix trial where I watched Haters Back Off, New Girl and the Gilmore Girls revival!

4. I read a lot of great books, and a few not so great ones. I did the summer reading program at my library and got chosen to be on the Teenreads.com board which is very exciting!

5. I did my summer assignments and wrote a 3000 word essay. Also did some SAT studying because I’m retaking it in October.

6. I went to my local performing arts theatre and saw Oklahoma and Grease. We have season tickets so I’m also going to be seeing Annie, Once, Singing (Singin’)? in the Rain and Gypsy.

7. I had taekwondo training basically every Saturday and a dance showcase. Today I’m going to my grandma’s birthday party at a Russian restaurant which I’m excited for! I also did a lot of running since I’m training for cross country which starts next week and my half marathon in November.

8. I also listened to some new music, Dodie’s new EP YOU is amazing, In the Middle and Would You be so Kind are my two favorites. Also Kesha’s new stuff is amazing. And Dua Lipa’s New Rules is stuck in my head!!

9. I didn’t date any boys but that’s okay because college is around the corner and cute boys will be there…unlike in high school.

10. I blogged! I revamped my blog with a new theme and published more posts than I had during the school year and commented and liked other people’s posts more!

How was your summer? Did you do anything fun?! Let’s chat!

August TBR!

december 3, 2019.png

Welcome to my August TBR! I have so many books to get to and some of them I’m very excited for! This is in alphabetical order by the way!

I loved Elisa Kova’s other series so I’m excited to jump into this one! I’m also excited for Because You Love to Hate Me, all the authors involved are ones I love and the booktubers also!

My best friend brought The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time to my attention and I’ve heard great things about it! Finally the Daughter of the Burning City has been hyped recently so I can’t wait to read it as well!

Image result for eliza and her monsters Image result for gentleman's guide to vice and virtue Image result for girl who fell Image result for geekerella

These four books are YA contemporaries I think? I don’t really know much about any of them, and I’m fine with that because going into books blind is never a bad thing.

Image result for game of thrones book 1 Image result for hero of ages Image result for king's cage Image result for lucky in love kasie west

I’ve been meaning to read Game of Thrones for a while, same thing with the Hero of Ages and King’s Cage, they’re sitting on my bookshelf waiting for me to read basically. Lucky in Love by Kasie West has also been a hyped book and really I read all of Kasie’s new releases, even though she can be hit or miss for me.

Made You Up is by the same author as Eliza and her Monsters, so I want to give it a read. The Ruby Circle and Stars Above have also been part of the book collection sitting on my shelf waiting for me to read.

They Both Die at the End is by an author I love, Adam Silvera, and he’s such a great writer so I’m both scared and excited for his newest book because my emotions may be impacted heavily based on that title.

What books are you hoping to get to next month? Have you read any of the ones I want to read? Let me know how they are!

Most Used Apps On My Phone // 2017

wp-1487461886310.png Related image

So a while back, in November of 2016 I did a most used apps on my phone post. You can click here to read it! I think I had just gotten my first smart phone the month before and the excitement about apps was real. And yes! That is throne of glass wallpaper!

If anyone is curious, I have a white Samsung Galaxy S5. I didn’t really have a choice in my phone, my parents finally bought me a smartphone in 10th grade after using a fliphone since 7th grade before that.

My little brother has an iphone, he just finished 8th grade, how fair is that??? Whatever, when I go to college I’ll probably buy myself an iphone, I really don’t dislike Android but I just really can’t tell the difference between iphone and Android.

Anyhoo, let’s get started!

Social Media:

So my social media ones are pretty much the same as from 2015 except I’ve gotten a snapchat account. I think I made it in October 2016, I really only have a few streaks. And then obviously the instagram logo changed too.

School related:

For school it’s the same since last year, Google Classroom and Remind. Google classroom is the new digital way for teachers to post assignments and then remind they use a class group messaging app essentially.

I also have the Google Drive app to submit google docs from my phone to google classroom sometimes. Everything is digital now I swear.

Personal/Miscellaneous:

I have the GroupeMe app for a lot of different group chats like for cross country, track, work and for IB.

I’ve upgraded to spotify to listen to all of my music now; I used to use iheartradio, which I only use now to listen to live radio.

I use overdrive to check out e-books from my library (live-brary website) and read         e-books without wifi, it’s pretty cool.

I use the FreeForm app to watch tv shows like Shadowhunters, the Bold Type and whatever else. FreeForm has a bunch of movies on there that they update monthly I think, but there are ads every 10 or so minutes. (The ads are usually fine with me because I can blog or do homework during the ads).

I use the candy camera app to take pictures because the camera on my phone is very shite.

And then I got a bitmoji recently to link up with snapchat.

That’s me in bitmoji form below!

I have a bunch of other random apps, but I don’t really use them on a daily basis.

What other fun apps do you guys have?! I don’t have games or anything because I’d rather be reading 🙂

The Bold Type // Pilot Review

The Bold Type

The Bold Type is a new show on FreeForm and focuses on three girls who work at Scarlet, a fashion magazine. It airs every Tuesday, taking the spot of Pretty Little Liars.

I watched the first episode and felt kind of fuzzy afterwards. Being a journalist is a career path, one of many for me, that I could picture myself in. Basically, the show follows my dream job.

I loved all of the characters and how the show didn’t shy away from and wasn’t scared to talk about real things that women deal with.

While I did love the pilot, the thing that I realized is that it’s a bit unrealistic. Sure the show is very cute and I’m going to definitely continue watching. There’s feminism, diversity, sexuality representation and hot relationships! Hello yes please!

Image result for the bold type Image result for the bold type

Despite all of those positives, the girls, one of them who is still an assistant, all wear these fashionable outfits and hairstyles that make me totally jealous. And as I was feeling jealous I realized that it’s not realistic, no assistant in a journalism office looks like a well put together celebrity that could walk down a fashion runway. (Maybe I’m exaggerating a bit).

It’s also New York City, which costs a ridiculous amount of money to live in a nice part of. As newbie journalists, these girls are living the life let me tell you. Also one of the girls is the social media director after working there for only two years I think.

I definitely am fascinated with the journalism world and do I want to be these girls half the time while watching? Of course! But I will be watching this show with some reservations, just so I don’t get my hopes up that this is how the job field in NYC journalism really is.

And also it’s not like the Bold Type is a how to guide to becoming a journalist, it’s a drama comedy about three girls who work at a magazine. If it was realistic, it would be boring and sad if I’m being honest, because the girls wouldn’t have moved up so quickly at Scarlet or live in nice apartments by themselves.

Final thoughts?

I liked the pilot and will be watching more! I’m just going to live my high school journalist dreams through the Bold Type from now on! I loved the feminism and female power in the show! I also love all the chemistry between the characters and that the boss lady wasn’t the scary evil boss and actually more of a mother figure to the girls!

Have you watched the Bold Type? What do you think?

And that is all! There haven’t been any books I’ve read that I hated this year so far, I don’t think I rated any book lower than 3 stars this year!

Yay! Some of the 3 and a few 4 star books didn’t make it into this post just because they weren’t memorable enough or cause I thought they were okay.

Which books have you read that you loved so far this year?! Do we share any in common?

Sunday Teenage Musings: Invisibility, Boys, and Prom

Copy of Totally Should've.png

I’ve had a lovely 4 day weekend because of the snow and don’t really have much bookish things to talk about currently so I’m just going to post some of the thoughts that rattle around in that brain of mine.

Am I invisible?

I was in my school’s weight room the other day with a friend of mine and there were the usual football crew and other boys in the there. My friend and I were doing some abs, and these 3 boys kept playing with her and stealing her shoes and she stole their phones in retaliation.

No one looked at me, not even a glance. It wasn’t like I didn’t know these boys either, they were in my classes, knew my name and have had actual conversations with me. I mentioned my invisibility to my friend and told her that the boys were so flirting with her but she dismissed it.

The next time we were in the weight room, one of the boys kicked my shoe when we were doing crunches. Okay so I wasn’t invisible after all I guess, right? I guess my friend is just more of an attention people person, whereas I am more of a huddle in the corner of a room reading a book kind of person.

The point is, I’m fine with that. I was upset at first that I was the sidekick who wasn’t paid attention to, but I’m realizing that I’m fine with it, might even like it. Cause really I didn’t want the attention, I only thought I did, if that makes sense? I think I like the idea of things more than I like actually doing them.

(Cough cough boys. I like the idea of a boyfriend but do I necessarily want one?)

That also leads me to the topic of boys in general and prom. My junior prom is coming up in April and it’s taken my grade by a storm. Everyone is talking about it. Someone gets asked every other day it seems.

I suppose that makes sense, February, Valentine’s Day etc. there has to be a link there. At first I was like oh my god who’s going to ask me. And then I took a step back to assess my situation and realized that I wouldn’t want to be asked for the sake of asking.

I mean that I’d rather go with my friends who I’d have a better time with anyway because my date might not want to dance or be self conscious and it would just be awkward if I didn’t know the guy too much.

Not that I wouldn’t mind being asked either.

My mother says she’s sick of hearing about prom and that she doesn’t see a point in it.

I disagree. As juniors, especially IB juniors, we get so stressed trying to get good grades for college, and I think having a junior prom is a way to promote excitement and de-stress for a night.

And the thing is, I know my mom will make prom as hard for me as possible because that’s how she is, so it’s probably even better that I won’t have a date, right?

But I don’t want my mom to be the reason for me not having a date if that makes sense? But also who am I kidding I don’t really date period because of her. But also am I just using my mom as my excuse not to date? Thoughts in my brain people. Hmm I’m making a sexuality post next because I feel that I want to cause I’m confuzzled.

So anyway, I hope you enjoyed my musings, and have a super lovely day!
