The Crown by Kiera Cass (The Selection #5)

Publication Date: May 3rd, 2016

Publisher: Harper Teen

Page Number: 279

Format Read: Hardcover (Bought)

Goodreads Synopsis:

When Eadlyn became the first princess of Illéa to hold her own Selection, she didn’t think she would fall in love with any of her thirty-five suitors. She spent the first few weeks of the competition counting down the days until she could send them all home. But as events at the palace force Eadlyn even further into the spotlight, she realizes that she might not be content remaining alone.

Eadlyn still isn’t sure she’ll find the fairytale ending her parents did twenty years ago. But sometimes the heart has a way of surprising you…and soon Eadlyn must make a choice that feels more impossible—and more important—than she ever imagined.

My Thoughts:

So yeah. A bunch of things happen in this book that aren’t exactly politically correct I’m sure. And usually I just brush over these kind of things, but since Eadlyn declaring things left and right kind of threw me off, it did bother me.

Like I felt no chemistry in this book between Eadlyn and any of the boys. I mean yeah, I knew who she’d end up with, but was I like YES EADLYN AND BLANK! …no (Blank because I don’t want to spoil anyone)

So basically it was an okay ending to a trilogy that gradually just declined with the addition of two new books…

And it was so short! Like thickness wise it’s the smallest one. It didn’t evoke really any emotion from me and I found myself asking what the point of it was…

Verdict:

I don’t know. This book was just bland. But like it was good. So basically good and bland? Is that a thing? I guess it is.

My Rating:

3.5 stars

The Rose Society (The Young Elites #2) by Marie Lu

Publication Date: October 13th, 2015

Publisher: G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers

Page Number: 396

Format Read: E-book (Live-brary download)

Goodreads Synopsis:

Once upon a time, a girl had a father, a prince, a society of friends. Then they betrayed her, and she destroyed them all.

Adelina Amouteru’s heart has suffered at the hands of both family and friends, turning her down the bitter path of revenge. Now known and feared as the White Wolf, she and her sister flee Kenettra to find other Young Elites in the hopes of building her own army of allies. Her goal: to strike down the Inquisition Axis, the white-cloaked soldiers who nearly killed her.

But Adelina is no heroine. Her powers, fed only by fear and hate, have started to grow beyond her control. She does not trust her newfound Elite friends. Teren Santoro, leader of the Inquisition, wants her dead. And her former friends, Raffaele and the Dagger Society, want to stop her thirst for vengeance. Adelina struggles to cling to the good within her. But how can someone be good, when her very existence depends on darkness?

My Thoughts:

This was SO dark! *claps hands like an evil child* And I loved it! I actually was invested in the book! With the Young Elites I remember being a tad bored but with this one I was like you go Adelina!

And that ending!! And the fact that Adelina is still capable of feelings after being so dark!

One thing that confuses me is that the Rose Society was mentioned like three times total and that’s the title of the book…

Semantics! The point is, Adelina was so badass! Like she killed whoever she wanted!

I’m always scared when an author creates A LOT of characters that that author and the readers all love (cough Sarah J. Maas cough) And that author can’t kill any of them so you feel like there’s been a battle and everyone we love survived (SJM cough)

But I feel like Marie Lu is catching on that she has to kill peoples. At this point, I feel like we’re not emotionally attached to the Daggers anymore, so Marie Lu just is like, eh whatever, they can all go.

But like the whole thing with Enzo, and Magiano, and Violetta, and Teren is so intense and I CANNOT wait to see what happens in the next one, because it’s sure to be interesting at the very least.

Verdict:

Highly dark and splendid! Not boring at all and the new characters are just amazing! Like bye bye daggers, Adelina has some new Elites! And they’re called the Rose Society!

My Rating:

4.5 stars!

The Hunt (The Cage, #2)

The Hunt by Megan Shepherd (The Cage #2)

Publication Date: May 24th, 2016

Publisher: Balzer + Brey

Page Number: 368

Format Read: E-book (Live-brary download)

Goodreads Synopsis:

The Maze Runner meets Scott Westerfeld in the second novel in this gripping and romantic YA series about teens abducted from Earth by an otherworldly race—from Megan Shepherd, the acclaimed author of the Madman’s Daughter series.

They’ve left the cage—but they’re not free yet.

After their failed escape attempt, Cora, Lucky, and Mali have been demoted to the lowest level of human captives and placed in a safari-themed environment called the Hunt, along with wild animals and other human outcasts. They must serve new Kindred masters—Cora as a lounge singer, Lucky as an animal wrangler, and Mali as a safari guide—and follow new rules or face dangerous consequences. Meanwhile, Nok and Rolf have been moved into an enormous dollhouse, observed around the clock by Kindred scientists interested in Nok’s pregnancy. And Leon, the only one who successfully escaped, has teamed up with villainous Mosca black-market traders.

The former inhabitants of the Cage are threatened on all fronts—and maybe worst of all, one of the Hunt’s Kindred safari guests begins to play a twisted game of cat and mouse with Cora. Separated and constantly under watch, she and the others must struggle to stay alive, never mind find a way back to each other. When Cassian secretly offers to train Cora to develop her psychic abilities—to prove the worthiness of humanity in a series of tests called the Gauntlet—she’ll have to decide fast if she dares to trust the Kindred who betrayed her, or if she can forge her own way to freedom.

My Thoughts:

Okay I don’t know how many books this series will be, but like it’s already starting to drag on.

I just want Cassian and Cora to make out and that’s all.

You know, I described this plot to my brother and he started rolling his eyes like ew typical YA novel with sci fi. And yeah, he’s right basically.

I feel like the only saving grace this book has in terms of content and predictability is the CHEMISTRY between Cassian and Cora.

Call me a nut job, call me too invested in my OTP’s, but yeah the romance in this book is barely there, but it’s THERE. And the chemistry and tension between Cora and the main love interest is extremely there and if everyone dies and the plot falls apart in the next one, I will give it at least 3.5 stars if I’m satisfied with the Cora/ Cassian romance.

Spoilery Section:

That being said, I swear to god if Cora goes to rescue Cassian and finds him damaged from torture and whatnot and has to fix him I will be sooo frustrated. I think I finished this book in one day, but somehow despite that quick read, it felt slightly dragged on.

I don’t know. I just really love Cassian, can’t you tell?

Verdict:

Aliens! Spaceships! And cages for humans basically. Typical sci fi stuff. Also that chemistry between our two leads! (I just finished this book an hour ago…also it’s late at night. I think I’m losing it slightly…)

My Rating:

4 stars
