April 2018 Wrap Up!

May 2016 Wrap Up!.png

Hello everyone! This has been a slow reading month for me as I’m nearing my IB exams and the end of school. I only read 5 books this month, so I really need to pick it up to meet my Goodreads goal!

I actually watched quite a few movies this month, I’ll list them at the end of the wrap up!

First up, I finally got around to reading, THIS IS WHERE IT ENDS by Marieke Nijkamp! I also read I HAVE THE RIGHT TO by Chessy Prout.

I’ve been seeing THIS IS WHERE IT ENDS everywhere for a while now so I’m so glad to finally have read it especially since the topic of school shootings is very prevalent now.

Similarly with I HAVE THE RIGHT TO, the topic of sexual assault is a very current topic and it was inspiring to read about the bravery that Chessy Prout displayed throughout the aftermath of her sexual assault.

I highly enjoyed ACE OF SHADES by Amanda Foody, as well as JEK/HYDE by Amy Ross and FATAL THRONE.

ACE OF SHADES was a delightful surprise for me this month and I absolutely loved reading it! I thought that JEK/HYDE was a tad predictable, even for someone like me who isn’t familiar with the original story. FATAL THRONE was interesting as I’m highly fascinated with everything involving King Henry VIII and his wives so this was a gem to read for me.

Some movies I watched this month including re watches are:

-Mulan and Mulan II

-Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

-Lady Bird

-Suicide Squad

-Call Me By Your Name

November 2017 Wrap Up aka I’m stressed out

What Did I Read This Month

Whoever said senior year of high school was easy has clearly never taken IB. College can’t possibly get any harder than this.

So yes I’m stressed out and have not been blogging…like at all…but I have read 12 book this month and have smashed my 100 book goal for 2017. I’m at 105 right now and will hopefully surpass last year’s final of 112? Maybe, we’ll see.

Let’s get started!

I read some books for a book trivia competition that I do every year called Battle of the Books!

It’s funny, usually I’ve already read two out of the three battle books but this year I’ve never heard of any of them. I liked all three and if I had to choose one to study for the competition I would say probably ‘Tell Me Three Things’ because it’s the most contemporary and easiest to memorize, unlike ‘Starflight’ which is very intense and would be a pain to memorize facts and the little obscure things about it.

I read some random books that are all from different genres and authors as well!

I know that ‘Without Merit’ and ‘There’s someone inside your house’ are controversial but I think that they were both okay books. I definitely see both sides of readers’ arguments and I agree with a lot of the negative but also the positive things about them. I really liked ‘Renegades’ as well as ‘They Both Die at the End’.

All of these authors except the Lizzie Borden book I’ve already read and loved so though these latest books did not match up to my already set expectations of them through their other books I still liked these books. I actually almost DNF’d the Lizzie Borden book because it was so boring but I pushed through it in the end.

Lastly, I finished the Sinners on Tour series!

I read the first book last month so it doesn’t count, this month I read books 2-5, but I just didn’t feel like cropping the first book out of the picture so here it is.

In others news my first college app is due tomorrow so yay, I’m slowly crawling through the year.

July 2017 Wrap Up!

July 2017 Wrap Up!.png

I had such a great reading month, reading 12 books! August is going to be even better because I have an ambitious tbr, which you can check out here!

Let’s get into it!

First up I read some adult romance books by Rachel Van Dyken

Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be reading her books anymore, I just don’t like the plot or characters. I gave all three a 3 star rating because I kind of liked them but not really.

I also completed up to book 5 in the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning with Faefever, Dreamfever, and Shadowfever

I loved all of these books and gave all three a 5 star rating! I have a review of the first 5 books that is non spoilery right here. I also know there are different covers but these are my favorite because they’re all matching and stuff.

I also read some YA this month!

I read Emmy and Oliver, Flame in the Mist, When Dimple Met Rishi and Lord of Shadows. I liked both Emmy and Oliver and Flame in the Mist a lot, I have a review for Flame in the Mist right here. I will have a review up for When Dimple Met Rishi and Lord of Shadows soon! I gave them 4 and 5 stars respectively.

I had two lovely books sent to me to review, Mirror Me by Tara St. Pierre and Aaru by David Meredith

The Mulan Book Tag!

The lovely Sam @ River Moose Reads tagged me to do the Mulan Book Tag! Thanks so much Sam!

The Rules:

  • Mention the creator (Kirsty and the Cat Read)
  • Thank/mention the person who tagged you
  • Match books or characters to the questions below
  • tag as many people as you like🙂

1. Reflection “When will my reflection show who I am inside” – An inaccurate book cover that doesn’t really reflect what the book is about

Image result for vampire academy original cover Image result for bloodlines book Image result for vampire academy new covers

I definitely always say that Richelle Mead’s Bloodlines and Vampire Academy books have very inaccurate covers, mostly in that there are girls on the covers zoomed into their faces with weird poses and angles. Both series are actually amazing and aren’t reflected with those zoomed in faces. They also did a new cover release that just puts a VA over the originals which I don’t know if that’s any better.

2. Mushu – A character with a lot to prove

Image result for harry potter and the sorcerer's stone

I’m thinking Snape for this one, just in terms of proving himself to the readers and Harry that he was a good guy this whole time.

3. “I’ll make a man outta you!” – A character who develops the most OR a book with some kick-a** training scenes

Image result for shatter me book

It’s been a while since I read this trilogy, but I feel like Juliette develops a lot

4. “A Girl Worth Fighting for” – A ship you will defend till your last breath

Image result for heir of fire Image result for a court of thorns and roses

I have sooo many ships! I called Rowan and Rhysand though before anyone else did and were all supporting Dorian/Chaol and Tamlin so I was quite proud of myself for that. I also absolutely LOVE Jamie and Claire from Outlander and of course the million other ships I have.

If you want to check out some more of my favs you can search ‘valentines’ into the search bar of my blog and I have a bunch of posts I did for valentines day last year that you can check out!

5. Huns – A book/character that gives you the creeps

Image result for shadow and bone

The Darkling is complicated, he’s creepy but at one point I think I liked him.

6. Mulan – Your favorite bada** female protagonist

Image result for outlander book 1 Image result for percy jackson book Image result for mortal instruments books Image result for darkfever

Oh my goodness I can name sooo many! Claire Fraser, Annabeth Chase, Thalia Grace, Zoe Nightshade, Feyre, Aelin, Lysandra, Hermione, Emma Blackthorn, Clary Fray, Isabelle Lighwood, Mac from Darkfever!

Thanks so much for reading!

If anyone wants to do this tag, go ahead, I’d love to read your answers!
