September 2017 Wrap Up!

So…school has been keeping me very busy and as a result I haven’t been blogging much (what else is new).

I have been reviewing books though! I’m a member of the 2017-18 teenreads.com Teen Board where I read and review books for their site.

I had a great reading month, 11 books, and I’m on track (ahead actually) of my reading goal of 100 books!

First up I read the Cruel Crown novella and then King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard

I really love this series and I can’t wait to read the last book!

I also read some great books from teenreads, they give us reviewers a huge list of books to choose from and I always add the ones I want to read to my tbr

24951755 32719057

I thought Da Vinci’s Tiger was fascinating, and I was totally shipping Leonardo and Ginevra from the beginning! I would probably give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars, just because the beginning was a little hard to get into, and many characters had similar names which was a little confusing.

Nothing, was a book where the two main characters think their life is boring and nothing happens, but they realize that maybe their lives aren’t that boring after documenting their sophomore year of high school. I would give this book a 3 out of 5 stars because it was slightly boring, though I did relate to the girls a lot more than typical YA females friends.

I read some awesome books with bi main characters!

Ahh! The Gentlemen’s guide was soooo good! I shipped Percy and Monty so much and they were so cute and frustrating! It was quite a long book with parts that had me raising my eyebrows as to the realistic aspects but all in all it was such a great adventure! This book is tied with Wonder Woman for my favorite book this month! 4.5 stars!

Queens of Geek was such a geeky fun book that fangirls like myself can definitely relate to. It’s more of a quick fun read than anything else and did feel a tad like fanfiction? I don’t know, I just felt that vibe. Nevertheless, 4 stars for Queens of Geek because I was so happy while reading!

I finally read Wonder Woman! And then also Little Monsters because I’ve heard so much hype

29749085 32320750

Wonder Woman had all the feminism and kick-ass scenes I wanted and thought it would have! 4.5 stars and not 5 because the plot twist at the end had absolutely no set up and annoyed me very much. And then also the book ended kind of abruptly and I do love my closure so I was sad I didn’t get enough.

Little Monsters felt like it was trying so hard to be Pretty Little Liars but I kept reading eagerly so it must have worked? I was grateful that unlike Pretty Little Liars, the twists and plot was actually predictable and possible to happen cough cough. 4 stars!

Finally I read some classics! And a novella that a tv show I started watching is based on (Good Behavior if you’re interested)

I liked a Wrinkle in Time, though I felt the middle section of the book was very slow. I gave it 4 stars on Goodreads but it’s probably more like a 3.5 for me. I will not be continuing with the series most likely because it’s middle grade.

I had to read A Heart of Darkness for school and it was 72 pages of boring, no plot, and racism as much as a white European can squeeze in. 1.5 stars because go metaphors.

I started binging on this show, Good Behavior and found out it was based on these books by Blake Crouch and went to check him out. The show is amazing, the chemistry between Letty and Javier is insane and I can’t wait for season 2 on October 15th! A druggie and a hit man get together? You’d think it would never work but it does somehow.

What did you read this month? Link me up with your September Wrap Ups and I’ll be sure to check them out!

A Wrinkle in Time Book Review!

Image result for a wrinkle in time

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L ‘Engle

Publication Date: March 15th, 1973

Publisher: Yearling Books

Page Number: 211 pages

Format Read: Paperback (Library borrowed)

Goodreads Synopsis:

It was a dark and stormy night; Meg Murry, her small brother Charles Wallace, and her mother had come down to the kitchen for a midnight snack when they were upset by the arrival of a most disturbing stranger.

“Wild nights are my glory,” the unearthly stranger told them. “I just got caught in a downdraft and blown off course. Let me be on my way. Speaking of way, by the way, there is such a thing as a tesseract”.

Meg’s father had been experimenting with this fifth dimension of time travel when he mysteriously disappeared. Now the time has come for Meg, her friend Calvin, and Charles Wallace to rescue him. But can they outwit the forces of evil they will encounter on their heart-stopping journey through space?

My Thoughts:

I found this book in my house after my brother borrowed it from the library but never read it and was going to return it until I pounced and claimed it for myself. I had it sitting on my desk for a month before I finally got around to reading it! I honestly renewed it from the library 3 times. That’s okay though because I’ve finally read it!

I didn’t know anything about this book before going into it and the sci-fi elements really surprised me. I shouldn’t have been surprised though because hello the title is a dead giveaway but whatever it’s middle grade so it could have been about anything really.

Charles Wallace is my favorite! What a sweet intelligent boy! I was so upset when was being manipulated by IT.  Also Calvin! Do I sense a Meg and Calvin relationship in the future??

I’ve heard there’s a movie being made of this book, or maybe there already is one? I don’t know, it’s late at night and I don’t feel like doing extra research. Wait now I’m curious, one sec. AHA! There is a movie and it’s coming out in 2018 and I’m totally going to see it!

ALSO! Speaking of movies THE HATE YOU GIVE is being turned into a movie!! Omg see what I just did there, I capitalized the title. You know why? Because I’m a reviewer over at teenreads.com and I’m slowly being sucked into their formatting style. I will probably be adopting it completely over the next few months. Teen reads doesn’t stop me from being a fangirl and totally informal on my personal blog right here though!

Okay moving on, Aunt Beast was also so cute and so motherly I was so touched because I thought they were honestly going to eat Meg, Calvin and father. Also I thought I would like father a bit more but I didn’t which made me sad.

Verdict:

Sci-fi space stuff and evil stuff and three witch things that can time travel! Can you tell senior year is getting to me? The college pressure is real ya’ll.

My rating:

4 out of 5 stars

Thankfully school hasn’t put a damper on my reading just yet, I’m still reading a lot, but not blogging -_-

Anyhoo, have you read this book?! What did you think?! Let’s chat! Also no I am not over hyped on coffee right now, it’s the Greenday blasting in my ears that’s hyping me up, I swear. And Panic too.

September 2015 Wrap- Up

Hi there! I meant to post a Top Ten Tuesday yesterday but i had waaay too much homework and studying to do.

I also have a lot today, but i really wanted to post my September Wrap Up on the last day of September.

So, here we go! My month of reading:

I actually read a little more than i thought i would. I was in a reading slump this month, and in the last few days i managed to come out of it with the books:

The Fill in Boyfriend by Kasie West and The Cage by Megan Shephard. (And yay, they were on my Top Ten Fall TBR list, so 2 down, 8 to go)

There will be a review for both of these next month, The Fill in Boyfriend on Friday, and then The Cage sometime next week.

I also finally read Every Last Breath by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Book review here

I read Wither and Ship Breaker from my school library, Wither was great, i’m pretty sure it’s a series of some sort, and Ship Breaker was ok. Very different from what i usually read, but the school librarian recommended it.

My guilty pleasure romance novel this month was Wallbanger by Alice Clayton. This book was hilarious! Loved it!

Of course, i read Queen of Shadows as well. Book review here

And finally, i read Poison Study! I don’t think i’m going to be finishing the series though. 😦 It just didn’t grip me like i though it would. Ok, and i just couldn’t with the name of the main character, because it’s my mom’s name, so every time they said it, it freaked me out. 🙂

And yes, that is it for my month in reading. Did we read any of the same books? Do you have any recommendations? Leave a comment!

Thanks for reading!
