Miss. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children Movie Review!

I saw this movie like 2 weeks ago, but anyway, there are my thoughts on this book to movie! Enjoy my rambling because that’s what this is!

After seeing the trailers for this I was so confused why Emma and Olive were switched. Like it makes nooo sense at all. It’s okay thought I’m over it.

In case you didn’t know, these peculiar children exist with different abilities and they live in time loops taken care of these human women who can turn into birds. In this case, our ymbryne is Miss. Peregrine. The evil monsters are called hollows and they’re peculiars gone wrong basically. The hollows need to hunt down the peculiar children to eat their eyes and turn back into a semi-human form.

How gross is that?! ^^^

I did love how faithful the movie was to the book actually and how it captured the feeling of it so well. Like I don’t know what jealous Enoch is doing but that’s a whole other thing. The fact that Enoch has a thing for Olive?? Who has fire powers which is still weird for me.

Also, at the end of the movie, when we saw the peregrine flying I was like aha! That’s not Miss. Peregrine, that’s her brother! But then the bird turned into Miss. Peregrine and I was like dang it, they’re only making it one movie?? To me it doesn’t seem like there will be more movies which also doesn’t make sense because I feel like this trilogy could have done great under Tim Burton as a franchise.

Overall I really liked it! If I were to rate the movie like I normally rate my books, solid 4 out of 5 stars. Good job Tim Burton!

Speaking of books I’ve read one this month so far. Still. I’ve been reading the Crooked Kingdom for two solid weeks and have made no progress. Thank you school and #IB.

Thanks for reading this review. Honestly I kind of just word vomited because this is my blog and I can do what I want jk. Ugh I’m so overwhelmed with school and stuff. Anyways, thanks for reading!

Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs *Spoiler Free Review

Library of Souls (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children, #3)

It’s taken me so long to read this book, but I’ve done it! I actually have reviews for the first two in the trilogy, back when my blog was just getting started, so excuse the basic(ness) of the reviews but here they are:

Miss. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children Review

Hollow City Review

P.s. There are some spoilers in the reviews above because I was silly and decided not to give a spoiler warning, I’m telling you, newbie Calliope over there

Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs (Miss. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children Trilogy Book #3)

Publisher: Quirk Books

Publication Date: September 22nd, 2015

Page Number: 458

Format Read: Hardcover (Christmas Present)

Goodreads Synopsis:

A boy with extraordinary powers. An army of deadly monsters. An epic battle for the future of peculiardom.

The adventure that began with Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and continued in Hollow City comes to a thrilling conclusion with Library of Souls. As the story opens, sixteen-year-old Jacob discovers a powerful new ability, and soon he’s diving through history to rescue his peculiar companions from a heavily guarded fortress. Accompanying Jacob on his journey are Emma Bloom, a girl with fire at her fingertips, and Addison MacHenry, a dog with a nose for sniffing out lost children.

They’ll travel from modern-day London to the labyrinthine alleys of Devil’s Acre, the most wretched slum in all of Victorian England. It’s a place where the fate of peculiar children everywhere will be decided once and for all. Like its predecessors, Library of Souls blends thrilling fantasy with never-before-published vintage photography to create a one-of-a-kind reading experience.

My Thoughts:

I thought that the beginning was a bit slow, and it took me about halfway to get really invested into the book. But then again, I was reading this while trying to keep up with school, so really only on the bus, (that may or may not have impacted my reading experience)

I thought that the ending was perfect. Overall, I thought that Library of Souls was the perfect way to end a trilogy and by the last 100 pages, I just couldn’t put the book down and needed to know what happened next.

Ok, I was just getting used to the Emma/Jacob thing, and then they had to bring up his grandfather and once again, I was reminded that Jacob was dating his grandfather’s ex-girlfriend.

The pictures in this book as always just amazed me. How did Ransom Riggs do that!?

I think also that this one was my favorite out of the whole trilogy.

While I did love this book, I didn’t feel that it connected with me emotionally. Similar to my experience with Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy, I liked the book and the characters, but I wasn’t emotionally invested.

That being said, I did love Library of Souls a little more than Dumplin’ so:

Verdict:

A wonderful end to a brilliantly crafted trilogy!

My Rating:

4.5 stars

And that is all!

What did you think!? Have you read this trilogy? What did you think? Which book was your favorite?! Let’s discuss in the comments 🙂

Hollow City by Ransom Riggs

hollow city

Time to discuss Hollow City! The second book in the Miss. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children Trilogy, the third book, called Library of Souls, comes out in September!

Here are some of my favorite lines/scenes from the book, either i found them funny or written well:

When Addison the talking dog asks Emma to light his Pipe with her finger, i just found that funny.

“Do you ever find yourself climbing into an open grave during a bombing raid,” I [Jacob] said, “and just wish you’d stayed in bed?”

And then Emma proceeds to kick his shoe and told him to quit stalling. 😀

I really enjoyed this book, and i liked the pictures in the beginning of all of the ‘Peculiar Personae’. I realized that there were significantly less pictures in this book, but that was fine with me.

I’m still amazed how Ransom Riggs managed to find all of these pictures!

I think i liked the first book better, but Hollow City was still great!

That Plot Twist: (spoiler) Ok, i really thought that the peregrine was Miss. Peregrine. The fact that it was HER BROTHER though! I honestly didn’t see that coming, and i felt so bad for Althea, and then when she died, and all of the ice started to melt.

Oh, omg! Jacob can tame Hollows now!? That’s crazy awesome. Also though, the fact that the wights are taking out the Peculiar’s second souls, that’s crazy horrible. I wonder what’s going to happen to the captured Peculiars and Miss. Wren.

Oh, and since Miss. Peregrine has been held captive the whole time, i wonder how she and the other ymbrynes are holding up. Are the wights like torturing them or something?

Ok, i think that’s really it, i didn’t have a lot of thoughts on this except: ‘I CAN’T WAIT FOR LIBRARY OF SOULS’. Ransom Riggs has a lot of buildup from the first two books, and i wonder if his ending will be satisfactory for us readers, because there’s a lot of action and scenes needed in one book.

I’m confident that us readers will be satisfied. And would an epilogue be too much to ask for as well?

Anyway, thanks for reading, and i’ll see you in the next one!
