January 2018 Wrap Up

January 2018 Wrap Up!.png

Hello everyone, I’ve survived another month of school and am that much closer to graduation. Senioritis has arrived very swiftly and I find myself very unmotivated especially since I’ve gotten into college now.

However, my reading definitely has not suffered and I’m happy to say I’ve set my goal for my 2018 reading challenge of 100 books! I’ve also read 11 books this month despite midterms…maybe I was reading instead of studying? Probably.

Anyway, let’s get into the wrap up!

First up I read some YA: Dividing Eden, Turtles All The Down, and Top Ten

I found the first half of DIVIDING EDEN very satisfying and I was so upset when the second half fell short of my expectations. I would give this book a 3.5 star rating because the first half was truly good!

TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN was a very real and raw book and usually John Green’s books are a hit or miss for me and with a 4.5 star rating for me I’m glad to say this one was a hit!

TOP TEN was interesting but also long and the story dragged on. While the dual perspective and top ten moments were an interesting way to structure the story at times it took away from the plot. I gave this book a 4 star rating on Goodreads.

I also read Kiss me in New York, It’s Kind of a Funny story and Seven Ways We Lie

KISS ME IN NEW YORK was as very cliche and predictable and despite the cute plot and storyline, I did not feel emotionally connected to any of the characters. I gave this book a 3 star rating on goodreads but it’s really a 2.5 for me.

IT’S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY was such a relevant book in terms of teen stress and standards for school and college. I gave it a 4 star rating on goodreads and also watched the movie which obviously could not compare to the book but was decent!

Similar to DIVIDING EDEN I thought that the first half of SEVEN WAYS WE LIE was slow but the second half really picked up. I gave it 4 stars!

I read Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe, What a Goddess Wants, and The School for Good and Evil

33602143 9675439 16248113

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND MISTLETOE was a beautiful disaster that I flew through and liked in terms of the cute hallmark factor. However, this was not a hallmark movie, it was a novel that I was expecting a lot more from, especially from author Melissa de la Cruz. From the cringe of the main character to how unlike Pride and Prejudice is in terms of romance and character development this book was a flop. Seriously, the personality of the characters was like that of a limp tissue. I gave it 2 stars on goodreads but it’s a 1.5 star rating from me.

WHAT A GODDESS WANTS was my erotica/romance for the month. I originally wanted a different book but live-brary/overdrive didn’t have so I settled for this one. I mean sure it was a fun read and the first quarter was promising but then it kind of fell apart for me, it was semi enjoyable though so I gave it 3 stars.

I’ve been meaning to read THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL for so long now ever since it was recommended to me by a mom at taekwondo several years ago and I’m so happy I finally got to it! It was a pretty big book and I’m quite proud that I read it, it is middle grade I’m pretty sure but it reads almost like a YA novel. I liked it and gave it a 4 star rating!

My books for teenreads this month were Zenith and Busted, and I was so lucky to get the ARC of Zenith!

31394234 21825764

Ok let’s talk about ZENITH. I didn’t really include this in my ZENITH review on teenreads but this book is extremely controversial. There are so many one star ratings bashing this book and I don’t understand why. The bitterness and jealousy of the success of ZENITH really is astounding. Sure it had a lot of flaws but so do most books. Because Sasha is a booktuber obviously getting ZENITH published was easier for her but I don’t think her books deserves negative reviews for that. It should be judged on the content. You can definitely disagree with me on this but overall I’m satisfied with ZENITH and will be reading the next book. 4 star rating.

BUSTED was a strange one but also entertaining and I gave it 3 stars on goodreads but it’s more of a 3.5 for me.

January 2017 Wrap Up

the-character-book-tag

Guess which idiot forgot to post her January wrap up yesterday cause she was so tired? That’s right this one. So my month was really slow on account of midterms, so I sneaked in a quick re read of a short book in there, and then I read two books right after midterms to make up for my slow month.

I think my month was also slow because I was trying to read The Well of Ascension, Mistborn book 2, and it’s giant and this trilogy takes a while to get to.

Anyhoo, let’s get into my wrap up! I read 8 books!

I read books 1 and 2 of the Mistborn trilogy!

I actually started the first book in December and basically finished it January 1st or 2nd, so really I only “read” one misbtorn book this month, Well of Ascension. I think I’ll do a trilogy review when I finish book 3 eventually.

I also read these three YA books!

So I guess I have the unpopular opinion in that I didn’t really like the Sun is also a Star…I seem to do that with Nicola Yoon’s books, everyone loves them and I don’t. I do love all 3 of these covers, they’re so gorgeous. I really liked the Midnight Star, I gave it a 4 star rating. It wasn’t as good as the Legend Trilogy I thought, but I stilled liked it! And then A Thousand Pieces of You I thought I would love because of the beautiful cover and the things I’ve heard but it disappointed me a bit.

I did a quick re-read of book 1 of the Captive prince trilogy because it’s short and I don’t have time to read…

And then I read my two favorite books of this month, Heartless by Marissa Meyer and Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy!

I loved Heartless, you can read my full review here! I gave it a 4 star rating, and if you don’t know, it’s the prequel to the Queen of Hearts that we know from Alice in Wonderland basically. I also loved Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy! I gave it a 5 star rating! It was so fun being back in the world of the Mortal Instruments and this book just reminded me of my favorite characters all over again, and I could get the stupid tv show characters out of my head for a while.

Actually interesting enough, the only character that I imagined in my head from the tv show while reading was Izzy. I guess that means subconsciously I think Izzy is doing a good job…unlike Jace and Clary and pretty much everyone else…

I used to like Malec on the show but I don’t anymore, sorry if you like the Shadowhunters tv show…but I don’t, I think it sucks actually. Ooh, Simon too at times I could see as Alberto Rosende, so good job to him playing Simon too!

I also read 3/4 of Outlander this month, but I’m not going to count it since I had that cheat with Captive Prince.

January 2016 Wrap Up

TITLE.jpg

Welcome to my first 2016 wrap up! For me, I would say that it was a successful reading month of 9 books, though according to goodreads, I am one book behind my scheduled goal of 135 for the year…so we’ll see goodreads, we’ll see.

The first book I read was Even Angels Fall by F.L. Darbyshire

Even Angels Fall

This book is a heart breaker let me tell you, I gave it a 3.7 out of 5 stars and enjoyed myself more than I thought I would. I do in fact have a review of this one despite my horrible lack of reviews of books I actually did read this month, and you can click here to read that.

Hmm, I think I basically spent this month playing catch up on reviewing books I read in December, but anyways, let’s keep going with this wrap up. (I’m a rambler, what can I say)

I also read The Unidentified Redhead

This is an adult romance as I usually do read at least one per month (Outlander doesn’t count as a guilty pleasure). I was very disappointed with this one and I would say 2.5 stars because some of the words made me uncomfortable and I thought that the main character was very immature.

I finally read the Unbound!

I’m excited for the third book to be finally released! But anyway, this one was so full of intense plot and characters and I gave it a 4 out of 5 stars. I also have a review up which you can click here to see

I also read Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour and the Last Dragonslayer

These two books are the books for Battle of the Books this year, the other one being Legend by Marie Lu, but I’m not in that round.

Battle of the Books is this cool library competition and every year I predict that I have already read two of the three books chosen, and I’m always right. I already read Legend and Amy and Roger, but I re-read Amy and Roger because it’s been so long.

Amy and Roger is this epic road trip love story and I gave it a 5 out of 5 on goodreads, and the Last Dragonslayer got a 4 out of 5.

I finally read another Robyn Schneider book: The Beginning of Everything

I thought this book was a little slow at times and dragged behind on pacing. Also the end was not satisfying AT ALL. So I’m giving this a 3.5 out of stars.

Same thing with this book. It had a great plot but was slightly boring at times, so 3.5 stars.

So I finally got through this ginormous thing this month! And Drums of Autumn, the next book, just got checked out to me and is even longer! How does Diana come up with enough plot for 9 of these!!?? I’m honestly scared. I’m also seeing a trend. I’ve been reading an outlander book a month. I think this one gets a 4.5 out of stars.

I received an ARC through a Twitter giveaway! Under the Dusty Moon

25413848

This book is out now, and was simply lovely. I did have quite a few things to discuss so you can click here to read my thoughts, but I gave it a 4 out of 5 stars overall.

And those are the books I’ve read this month! What did you read?

Stay awesome Sassenachs!-Calliope Fraser

P.S. Grease live is in half an hour, and I wasn’t going to watch it because it’s like 3 hours of my time that I could be doing something else, but twitter had made me give in.

I also just realized that the guy who plays Danny was that guy from Les Miserables who I thought was hot, so bonus right there
