September Wrap Up 2016

boyfriend

Hello everyone! September is now over and I’ve survived my first month back at school. Is it June yet?

Despite how inactive I’ve been in the blogging world, I can say that I read 10 books! I hope everyone has had a great reading month, and let’s get on with the wrap up!

First I read a late summer read edited by Stephanie Perkins.

I love these anthologies that Stephanie Perkins is putting out! Some of the authors I’ve heard of and read, but some of them were completely new to me and it was great also reading short stories from some of my favs like Cassandra Clare and Leigh Bardugo.

In my opinion, the Winter anthology was better but I still enjoyed this one. I like how the cover is similar to the winter anthology but more summery.

I’m happy that I finally got to this book this summer, since I finished it before the 21st, it counts! I’d give this book a 3.5 star rating.

Then I read 3 YA contemporaries from my 365 day epic reads book wheel

Truthfully, I was not a fan of either of the first two, and gave them both 2.5 stars.

Trust Me I’m Lying felt like a knockoff spy book with plot twists that I saw coming from a mile away. I also didn’t really click with Anatomy of a Misfit because of the main character. I really couldn’t relate at all to her.

Even in Paradise for me was a slow build up but by the end I was in tears, 4 stars. Originally while reading I was a little bored and wondering when the actual plot would start to actually start, but by the middle I was sucked right into this world and by the end I was slightly crying into my pillow at 11:00 at night.

I also read NA and adult some romance books.

The Mistake was really good! I loved the characters and the sass levels between everyone. I don’t think this one was as good as the Deal, so I’m giving it 4.5 stars. I just got the Score from the library so I’m excited to start on that next.

Roman Crazy really disappointed me because I love Alice Clayton’s writing so much but the romance for me didn’t work, I felt that there wasn’t really any chemistry and the main character to me felt kind of hypocritical. I would give this one 2 stars.

My Bad Boy Summer was sent to me to review and I liked it! The main character was easily manipulated by a boy that she met that I really hated, but that was part of the whole plot, so 3.5 stars.

I also read some YA fantasy!

Harry Potter and the Cursed child was not for me, 2 stars. I know there are a lot of mixed review about this book, and I understand that it’s a play but the plot to me felt very fanfiction like, and not even good fanfiction. I really tried hard to like it but I just couldn’t.

I really liked A Darker Shade of Magic! This is my favorite V.E. Schwab book so far, and I’ve heard so many great things about this book that I was so glad I liked it! 4 stars and I’m excited to read the next one!

And then my queen Empire of Storms is getting a 4.5 star rating and I just finished it today. Funny enough I finished it in my yearbook class and was crying with that ending. Empire of storms had kind of a slow build, and the reason why it’s not getting 5 stars is that chemistry that I loved between Rowan and Aelin in Heir of Fire is gone for me. Instead the Lorcan and Elide feels were real though, and Manon and Dorian too!

Thanks for reading! How many books did you read this month? Link me up with your wrap ups!

Stay awesome Sassenachs!-Calliope Fraser
